It’s not only for SLR camera creators but for high end users as well. Moreover, it has a possibility to be used not to the second camera but to the main.

The expectant 4K movie as a main camera
At first, our aim was to lay the foundation as a still camera brand, so developing a movie camera was not first priority. However, after releasing X-T1 and X-T2, just released six months ago, we realized they could be main cameras because of their enough quality. Though it’ s great, we must face a reality; a movie camera needs other equipment, so compared with a still camera, the amount of equipment is almost double! It’s unacceptable since the sales point of an X series is small and light. Thus, with keeping that condition, we should make a movie camera for professionals. Therefore, about the X-T2 development, we decided the camera could shoot 4K from the beginning.
Repetition of color and lens performance
Expectedly, making a look including a repetition of color and lens performance are vital to make a movie. We tried to talk with many cinematographers and video creators more than ever, and found that a good point of X-T2 is easily to get a film look even in camera setting without post processing. How much it works to a professional level totally depends on a work. But for instance, it may be very helpful to a web video because a user doesn’t need to process his/her movie at post production. In addition, as to a lens performance, we never accept any single compro- mise with an optical design of X mount lenses. Especially, about a prime lens, we try to correct electronically distor- tion or color adjustment as much as we can, so it’s not perfect, but almost nothing. Using both film simulation and XF lens affects a movie powerfully.
The image quality of FUJIFILM
The image quality consists of a film (a sensor), a processor (signal processing/color making), and lens. These three interactions decide everything, so if the sensor were full size and yet the lens weren’t, the image would be bad. If the signal processing were bad, the image would be worse. We understand the truth, and we have the proven achievement from the film era. Because we set our mind what a kind of film simulation we want to make was, we were able to develop the processor, having certain potential of color making. So, “X-Processor Pro” is the one that was expected to be. We foresaw the ultimate images from the design stage, thus the processor was created based on that needs. Plus, we are one of a few makers to make all size lenses such big, middle, 35mm and so forth. These lenses are FUJINON’s. We also have a history to improve all formats of lenses like films, and left the actual results for cinema, TV and others.
New production scheme without post processing
We call the new production scheme without processing “a quick 4K.” Usually 4K production takes long time for post production, and creators have to know the expertise knowledge about 4K. But it makes me feel meaningless though there are already cameras with high image quality and high resolution. In Japan, to 2020 Tokyo Olympics, 4K TV monitors get cheaper, and many broadcasting 4K contents increase. Along with that, infrastructures to show 4K would be rising. Then, all individuals could use 4K for a usual matter. Our concept hasn’t changed through the ages; keeping world’s photos and movies with high image quality. Based on that, we now propose “4K movie by film simulation” to the video/movie industry. To make it stable, we continue to improve the quality of film simulation more and more.
